Back pain is one of the most common injuries treated in physical therapy. A couple causes of back pain is stiffness in the spine or core weakness. Static stretching usually is not enough to improve spinal mobility enough to decrease pain. There are several movements, exercises, and active stretches to decrease low back stiffness. As mobility improves pain will decrease. Here are a few of my favorite low back mobility exercises.
Lower trunk rotations, Pelvis Tilts, Cat /Cow’s , Child’s pose
I also want to provide a few of my favorite core strengthening exercises to improve low back pain. People frequently do crunches or leg drops to work their abs, but this can put a lot of unnecessary stress on the spine. If you are suffering from low back pain those exercises may be uncomfortable and make your pain worse. The following exercises will work the core while maintaining a neutral spine. These exercises are intended to improve core strength without increasing the low back pain.
Core Strengthening Exercises.:
Planks, Side Planks, Farmer Carries, Bird Dogs
